Who We Are
The PRASAD Project is an international not-for-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life of economically disadvantaged people by honoring human dignity and fostering self-reliance.

The PRASAD Project was initiated in 1992 by Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, the spiritual head of the Siddha Yoga path. The humanitarian work of PRASAD manifests core values of the Siddha Yoga mission - selfless service, enduring commitment and respect for all people, regardless of their race or belief.

What We Do

PRASAD’s mission is to uplift communities through health, education and sustainable development programs. Over 70,000 people a year are direct recipients of PRASAD’s work around the world. Whether through the mobile dental clinic in Sullivan and Ulster Counties, NY, the newly established hospital in Maharashtra, India, or eye camps in Mexico, the goal of each PRASAD organization is the same – to provide the resources to help people help themselves, their community and their natural surroundings.

PRASAD's work began in the Tansa region of Maharashtra, India, a rural area with a population of about 200,000. Until PRASAD introduced a mobile health care clinic into the region in the late 1970s, basic medical care for most people was physically and financially inaccessible. Over the years, as volunteers learned more about the needs of the community from the people they served, PRASAD's initiatives expanded to include scholarships that support the education and training of many young people, and community development projects that foster sustainability. In addition, eye care is provided at a permanent eye clinic and at regular cataract-surgery eye camps, meals are served to children daily, and a HIV program was initiated in 2004.

The PRASAD Project's incorporation in the United States in 1992 led to a period of accelerated expansion. In addition to efforts in India, PRASAD launched programs in the U.S. and Mexico. In upstate New York a mobile dental clinic provides care to children in need and eye care remains the central focus in Mexico.

Annual Report

Philanthropic Relief
From the Greek philo (loving) and anthropo (human), philanthropic means "love of human
-kind." Relief is derived from the French relever (to uplift). Philanthropic relief reflects PRASAD's efforts to ease suffering and uplift humanity through acts of generosity and loving support.

Altruistic Service
From the Latin alter (other), altruism refers
to unselfish concern for the welfare of others. By acting without selfish motives, and by serving others with respect, PRASAD affirms the inherent dignity of all people.

And Development

Synonyms for develop-ment are growth, expansion, evolution, unfolding. PRASAD not only brings relief from suffering due to adverse circumstances, but helps also to build self-reliance so program recipients can play a more vital role in the sustainable growth of their communities.
