Phylicia Rashad, a long-term supporter of PRASAD, has agreed to be the official U.S. spokesperson for The PRASAD Project! Over the years, Phylicia graciously has offered her time to PRASAD. Now, she will be the public face of PRASAD, and, in particular, of the Children's Dental Health Program, PRASAD's U.S. program. Phylicia is also an honorary chairperson of this year's Beyond Fashion, and will attend the Preview Party on June 12. Read more.

 

World Environment Day is commemorated every year on June 5. It is a time when the United Nations stimulates global awareness of the environment and bolsters political attention and action. In India, Prasad Chikitsa is hosting a World Environment Day rally with participants from the villages of Ganeshpuri, Vajreshwari, Akloli and Bhiwali in order to increase the community's environmental awareness. In the Tansa region where these villages are located, deforestation occurs at an alarming rate and sources of drinking water run dry during the summer. Read more.

 



PRASAD's national and international board members met together for a two-day conference. The meeting generated much enthusiasm and momentum, since it was the first PRASAD global conference, with representation from seven out of the nine international organizations. During the course of the meeting, board members reached agreement on the organization and management processes and systems necessary to create and sustain a cohesive and effective global PRASAD organization. Tim Shera's first experience with PRASAD was aboard the Muktananda Mobile Hospital in India in 1991. He was very moved by his experience when he witnessed that "very poor people were being taken care of only because the mobile hospital visited their village." Inspired by his experience in India, he decided to volunteer for PRASAD in the United States, and was assigned to the Prevention Team of the Children's Dental Health Program (CDHP). Tim finds it very fulfilling to support PRASAD, and enjoys terrific camaraderie with the dental team. Read more.



Mike Fraysse is one of PRASAD's Tour de Smile's many supporters. As an expert on fitness, he is well aware of the effect of oral disease on a person's overall health and wellbeing. Plans are in the making for International Executive Director Dermot Hurly to visit several California cities this summer, with the intention of fundraising for PRASAD and expanding awareness of PRASAD's programs. The tour, tentatively scheduled for July and early August, will kick off on July 19 with a garden event at the home of PRASAD board member, Janet Dobrovolny.
