May 6 marks the 25th anniversary of the Muktananda Mobile Hospital. In 1978, this medical clinic-on-wheels began delivering high-quality medical treatment to villagers in the Tansa Region. The clinic currently serves more than 45,000 patients from 250 villages each year. Prasad Chikitsa is having a special celebration in India to commemorate the anniversary. On a Sunday in March, Prasad Chikitsa invited all the dais (midwives), pregnant women and mothers with small babies who are participating in the Maternal Child Health Program (MCHP) to the village of Gorad. Dr. Radhesham Pandey, the doctor now in charge of Prasad Chikitsa's medical programs, solicited feedback from the women. Read more.

 



A follow-up session to last winter's honey-making training took place on March 27 at Dahanu, a village approximately two hours from Ganeshpuri. Ten members of the Kelton self-help group traveled to Dahanu to learn how to house bees in the bee boxes, how to feed the bees for the first seven days with sugar water, and how to extract the honey from the boxes. At Prasad Chikitsa's April eye camp, held from April 19-22 in the Tansa Region, one hundred patients received surgery. One of these patients was Shevanti Namkula. When she was blind, Shevanti was disheartened because she was not able to work. She felt that she was not contributing to her family. Now, after her two eye surgeries, she will be able to work once again. Read more.

 



This May marks the 47th consecutive year the League of American Bicyclists has declared May to be National Bike Month™. The League is promoting Bike-to-Work Week from May 12-16 and Bike-to-Work Day on Friday, May 16. This is also the perfect month to sign up for PRASAD's Tour de Smile and get cranking on your training regimen. (Training tips are available on PRASAD's Tour de Smile website.) Even if you cannot ride one of the legs along the route, you can still ride in a Pedal Partner ride in your local area. In April, Georgina Whallin was invited to serve on the PRASAD Australia Board. Currently, Georgina is one of five Australian national managers for the Siddha Yoga Foundation of Australia. She has held a long-time interest in Third World development, and in the early 1980's, Georgina traveled to the northeast of India to visit a number of projects funded by Community Aid Abroad.

 



Barbara De Angelis is a bestselling author, television personality and motivational speaker. Barbara has been involved with The PRASAD Project for eight years. "From the moment I learned about the work of PRASAD, and saw a video of the miracles that took place in one of the eye camps in India, I knew I needed to become involved," says Barbara. Inspired by the fulfillment her support of PRASAD brought her, Barbara decided to donate to PRASAD a percentage of her royalties from two of the books in her famous "Chicken Soup for Soul" series.
