The
miracle started when Andres Ureste heard on the radio
about PRASAD de México's eye camp in Rio Verde.
For eight years, Andres, a 48-year-old man, had been suffering
from cataract-induced blindness, living as a recluse with
his wife and six children in extreme poverty. After hearing
the announcement, Andres attended a screening. Although
he had diabetes, which could reduce his chances for a
successful surgical result, PRASAD agreed to operate on
him one eye at a time.
After the surgeries, when PRASAD
de México's volunteer doctors and nurses removed
the bandages, Andres exclaimed, "Ustedes son unos
ángeles!" ("You are angels!").
His family, who had accompanied him to the camp, began
to weep tears of joy.

Within six months, Andres's life
was completely transformed; he secured a job as a truck
driver and traveled extensively throughout Mexico. It
was a fantastic opportunity to earn income to support
his family, and to see the landscape of his country.
As a result of the surgery, and his new job, Andres's
family became more confident, healthy and prosperous.
Later, Andres attended another eye
camp, but this time as a volunteer. He wheeled patients
to the surgery room and showed off his truck as testament
to what can happen when formerly-blind people regain
their eyesight.
