On May 6, Prasad
Chikitsa had a beautiful celebration in honor of the 25th
anniversary of the Muktananda Mobile Hospital (MMH). Since
1978, this medical clinic-on-wheels began delivering high-quality
medical treatment to villagers in the Tansa region. Early
in the morning of the 6th, the MMH was decorated with
colorful flowers, and Ramu Kaka, the very first person
to drive the MMH, had the honor of driving it into the
village of Ganeshpuri.
Ramu then drove the MMH to Akloli, its usual Tuesday
stop, where Gurunath Shelk, eye camp outreach coordinator,
gave a presentation about the history of the Mobile
Hospital. Marie Elrington, Prasad Chikitsa's nurse,
described how, when she first started on the MMH almost
20 years ago, there were

only 35 patients at a given stop and six staff members.
Now, at the same location, the MMH can see 400 patients
and has 18-20 people on staff. Marie said, "It
is my sincerest wish that in 25 years, I can stand here
and welcome people to the 50th jubilee of the MMH."
Jayram Patil, the coordinator of the MMH, introduced
people present including the Grand Panchat, a village
head who oversees eight villages in the area. Then the
MMH team distributed ladoo, a sweet shaped into a round
ball, to everyone present. A second commemorative function
is planned for May 18, so that Prasad Chikitsa trustees
and members of the community who were unable to attend
Tuesday's event will be able to come and celebrate with
Prasad Chikitsa. Read more about the Mobile
Hospital.
