Every day, The PRASAD Project's core programs—community development; health, dental and eye care; and education —bring help and hope to thousands of people in need. At the heart of those programs are the dedicated staff and volunteers of PRASAD. Every day, they tap into the creative power of loving service to help people heal, learn, grow and move towards self-reliance.

PRASAD's initial programs were located in India's Tansa region, where they primarily served the medical needs of the community. Over the years, the programs have expanded, and now address the causes of many diseases — such as lack of education, proper nutrition and economic resources — rather than simply the effects. During the past two years, the community development program has flourished and currently supports the preventative and village health initiatives. Prasad Chikitsa's efforts in India have taken on a more holistic approach, with the understanding that prevention is better than a cure, and that self-esteem and dignity enable communities to uplift themselves.

The PRASAD Project's programs have extended geographically as well, to eye care in Mexico and dental care in the United States. All of the programs, in every location and sector, operate out of PRASAD's values of respect, love and honor for ourselves and one another, as well as the environment in which we live.

"It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit."

Robert Louis Stevenson,
1850-1894,
Scottish Writer
